Privacy Policy
Plain-language, specific to what Tubelyst actually does - not boilerplate.
1. What Tubelyst is
Tubelyst ("we", "us") operates tubelyst.com, a set of free tools that read public data from YouTube channels and videos via the official YouTube Data API v3. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site.
2. Data you submit to us
When you type a YouTube handle, channel URL, or video URL into a tool, that text is sent to our server so it can be forwarded to YouTube's API - it is not stored beyond what is needed to serve and briefly cache the result (see §4). If you create an optional account, we store your email address and a salted, hashed version of your password (never the password itself). If you use the contact form, we store the name, email, and message you submit so we can reply.
3. Data collected automatically
To enforce the daily free-lookup limit without requiring an account, we hash your IP address (SHA-256, with a private salt) and store only that hash together with a lookup count and timestamp. The raw IP address is never written to our database. If you're signed in, the limit is tracked against your account instead of your IP.
4. YouTube API data & caching
Channel and video data returned by the YouTube Data API is cached for a short period (a few hours for channels, up to a day for individual videos) purely to reduce repeat API calls and keep the tools fast within YouTube's shared quota. This cache is keyed by the channel handle or video ID, not by who requested it, and only contains data that is already publicly visible on YouTube.
Tubelyst uses the YouTube API Services. By using Tubelyst, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. For information on how Google handles data in connection with the YouTube API, see the Google Privacy Policy. You can review or revoke Tubelyst's access to any Google-authenticated data (we currently don't request any) via your Google security settings.
5. Cookies
Tubelyst sets one cookie: a session token, and only if you choose to create an account and sign in. There are no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies on the site.
6. What we don't do
We don't sell or share any data with third parties, run advertising, or use third-party analytics/tracking scripts. We don't store the raw content you look up beyond the short cache window described above.
7. Children's privacy
Tubelyst is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
